ABBY POWELL- THOMPSON BLOGGER EXTRAORDINAIRRE is someone whom is actually quite new to me, but she has a loyal following of readers and fans all over the world. Abby uses different kinds of Polaroid cameras and when I first discovered her I was drawn to her peel apart work. I have no idea about peel apart film myself and she has inspired me to start looking into it more. The lovely lady from Portland ( what is it with the photography and blogging talent in Portland of late?!) has also recently opened up an online store selling some of her gorgeous prints. I am partial to the Lovely Ladies print myself.

I asked Abby to answer the Paper Cameras Polaroid questions and she very kindly obliged.
PC: Why Polaroid?
Abby: I love Polaroid for several reasons, but I guess I love the instant gratification most. It’s instant analog which is perfect for my ADD nature. It is also very nostalgic for me, Polaroids were pretty much the only cameras we had growing up-so I am drawn to them.

PC: Which Polaroid cameras do you use? Do you prefer some over others?
Abby: I shoot mostly with a Polaroid One Step, I also have a Polaroid Automatic 100 Land Camera which I love but recently broke, and I have a Polaroid Colorpack II I occasionally use. I love the land camera because I can actually focus it, but I love my one step for landscape and nature shots.

PC: That Pola Genie appears again. What or who would you shoot if you could choose anything?
Abby: Oh there are so many things I would want to wish for, but I guess I’d have to take my Polaroid to Paris and shoot everything (and everyone!) I could find. (Editor’s note: I’ll meet you there )

PC: Please share a couple of your favourite Polaroids and tell us the story behind them.

Abby: Mosier- I took this with my Polaroid One Step after a hike with my family. It was a perfect day filled with beauty, picnics and good conversation. I feel as though it is hard to capture nature with a Polaroid and I was happy with the outcome of this photo.

Abby: Cargo Glass-This photo was taken inside a beautiful import store in Portland. I felt lucky to be there when the right was just right. I am always trying to be more simple with the compostition of my photos-but all of these colors and textures just spoke to me!
PC: Favourite Polaroiders?
Abby: I love Molly’s Polaroids. All of her photos are great, but her food still lifes are amazing. I love domestic scenes and I personally find those hard to capture with a polaroid. She is just amazing at it.
PC: Thank you Abby for an insight into your world through your Polaroids. It was a lovely journey.
Check out Abby’s flickrstream here and of course her world famous blog, Abby Try Again here.
